6. Contract description: The aim of the water resources sector support
programme in Algeria, initiated at the Algerian Government's request,
under the MEDA programme, is to contribute towards lasting satisfaction of
consumer water demand, to restore the quality image of water sector
services, to improve the suitability of the parties involved for their
assignments concerning integrated management of water resources and to
encourage saving water and safeguarding water resources and the
environment.
In this context, aiming to help improve water-quality monitoring systems,
the intention, under the programme, is to build up the sector's equipment
and human resources by acquiring suitable essential equipment and by
training the staff responsible for its operation, repair and maintenance.
The aim of this contract is to provide equipment for 4 organic and mineral
micropollutant analysis laboratories, including a reference laboratory in
Algiers and 3 laboratories of excellence in Blida, Constantine and Oran
and, via high-performance physico-chemical analysis equipment, build up
the capacities of 7 regional laboratories.

9. Additional information: The selected equipment supplier shall lend
support to the contract's beneficiaries in drawing up the training
programme and defining procedures for its implementation for the chemical
engineers tasked with ensuring laboratory operation.
