7. Contract description: The aim of the water resources sector support
programme in Algeria, initiated at the Algerian Government's request,
under the MEDA programme, is to contribute towards lasting satisfaction of
consumer water demand, to restore the quality image of water sector
services, to improve the suitability of the parties involved for their
assignments concerning integrated management of water resources and to
encourage saving water and safeguarding water resources and the
environment.
In this context, activities will be carried out with the aim of improving
the collection and dissemination of information on the water resources
sector and strengthening the intervention capacities of the different
parties involved in the sector.
This contract involves:
— setting up an electronic document management system for the Ministry of
Water Resources (supply of software, training of staff and assistance with
updating and integration of data),
— setting up an information system for water resources directorates in the
wilayas and a network for data transmission and interface development,
— setting up a costing database for the Ministry of Water Resources.
